GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Southern Wesleyan University seeks instructors for upcoming adjunct position openings in English. We are especially interested in instructors who can teach freshman composition in traditional or online formats. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching undergraduate students in a specific field of expertise. Implementing lectures, online discussions, and assignments. Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams. Assessing grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations. Analyzing and reporting student data in accordance with the university's Quality Enhancement Plan. Advising students on how to be successful in class. Staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education. Minimum requirement is a Master's Degree, with at least 18 hours in the applicable discipline. Teaching Experience. Teaching experience at the college level preferred. Face-to-Face Requirements. The professor must meet minimum face-to-face instruction hour requirements for all in-person classes. Technology. SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and familiar with the use of technology within the academic environment including distance learning and learning management systems. The adjunct must have the technological capabilities to operate within the online environment, including being comfortable using Microsoft Teams conferencing software. Physical/Environmental Requirements. Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Teaching in an online format requires the adjunct to be flexible, available and responsive to the needs of his/her online students. Pre-employment Screening.
