We are looking for an educator who enjoys creating engaging learning experiences and is committed to helping students develop critical thinking, historical perspective, and strong analytical skills. This position includes teaching students with a wide range of abilities—from those pursuing the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme to students completing graduation requirements at a more moderate pace. Successful candidates will be flexible, student-centered educators who enjoy adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs. About The Westwood School Located in the North Dallas area, The Westwood School is an independent school serving students from preschool through high school. Our unique combination of Montessori education and the International Baccalaureate Programme fosters curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Our community is built on the values of Character, Community, and Excellence , and we pride ourselves on maintaining small class sizes—typically 10-12 students —that allow teachers to build meaningful relationships with students and provide individualized instruction. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Teach World History and European History courses. Develop and teach history electives, when appropriate. Create engaging lessons that encourage inquiry, discussion, and critical thinking. Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to meet students' individual learning needs. Be available outside of class to provide academic support and answer student questions. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and expectations. Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to evaluate and refine instructional practices. Attend faculty meetings, department meetings, professional development, and other school events. Participate in one week-long overnight student field trip each year. Collaborate with colleagues on school initiatives and campus activities. Contribute positively to our collaborative, supportive school culture.
Qualifications Preferred qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in History, Humanities, or a closely related field (master's degree preferred). Teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification. International Baccalaureate (IB) experience or training. One to three years of teaching experience at the secondary level. Strong curriculum development and instructional planning skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. A collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach to teaching. Compensation Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
