Job Description

Primary Purpose The Resident Teacher (RT) is a student teacher who participates in a paid, year-long, clinical experience under the guidance of a highly effective Host Teacher (HT). A resident observes and learns on the job in preparation for a teaching career while earning a degree and/or certification from the University of Houston. For a full school year, full-time, the resident works alongside the HT in a co-teaching environment. Resident Teachers are actively engaged in as many elements of the classroom as possible from the very beginning of the residency year. The RT will gradually assume greater responsibilities throughout the residency year as they develop as a teacher. This residency is a paid position, however compensated roles and additional responsibilities must not compromise learning goals for future teachers. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD. Qualifications Education/Certification/Licensure Enrolled in the University Program, working towards a teaching certificate Attempt the content certification assessment during the first semester. Special Knowledge/Skills Strong work ethic, open to feedback, with willingness to implement next steps, and a belief that all students can achieve Knowledge of subject matter being taught Experience Demonstrated effectiveness working with people who have differing cultural backgrounds and/or personal characteristics, including race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or economic differences. Preference given for experience working successfully with those of similar demographics to the desired school placement. Major Responsibilities and Duties Classroom and School Environment Identify and address individual students' social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers. Hold students accountable for ambitious, measurable, high expectations of behavior and engagement. Contribute to a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport. Support student behavior during transitions and less structured time (such as recess, lunch). Practice responsive classroom/restorative practices to create an environment where students feel a sense of significance and belonging. Monitor independent work time in classroom while teacher provides instruction. Identify and suggest ways to engage students in a physical/virtual classroom that include technology. Coordinate school activities like morning meeting, advisory, or curriculum nights. Supervise students during morning, lunch, dismissal, or after school. Planning and Preparation Co-Plan with host teacher and team. Ensure a high-standards, differentiation-ready instruction by utilizing district curriculum. Plan backward to align all lessons, activities, and assessments with high-expectation standards & curriculum. Provide HT lesson plans in advance for review. Implement and suggest improvements to instruction that develop higher-order thinking skills and is personalized, reflecting the levels and interests of individual students. Implement and suggest improvements to assessments that accurately assess student progress. Providing organizational support by organizing materials or assessments. Assist with grading and feedback for all students. Instruction Provide small-group instruction under the direction and using tools/rubrics of the HT and team. Supervise student skills practice, projects, and digital learning. Co-Teach with host teacher. Lead whole-group instruction (Per TAC 228 a minimum of 400 hours). Participate in instructional planning, data review, and improvement during the year: hold students accountable for ambitious, measurable standards of academic achievement. identify and address individual students' development of organizational and time-management skills. invest students in their learning using a variety of influence techniques. incorporate questioning and discussion in teaching. incorporate small-group and individual instruction to personalize and tailor instruction to individual needs. monitor and analyze student assessment data to inform enriched instruction by teacher. communicate with students, provide authentic, timely feedback, and keep them informed of their progress. Provide remedial teaching and tutoring of small groups or individual students. Lead clubs or extra-curricular activities that will not interfere with full time co-teaching and part time under-graduate school coursework (ie. SAT/ARA prep for High School placements). Complete substitute teaching, which provides opportunities to practice instruction and classroom Lead homerooms or small-group advisories. Professional Responsibilities Solicit and willingly receive feedback from Host Teacher, Principal, University Supervisor, and team members to improve professional skills. Regularly meet with Host Teacher to ensure alignment of instructional vision and delivery in all classrooms and to troubleshoot students' persistent learning challenges. Collaborate with other grade-level team members. Participate in professional development opportunities at school and EPP. Participate in IEP/504 meetings and family conferences. Demonstrates proficient levels of technology applications. Participates fully in drills and safety exercises to provide for the safety and overall emotional wellbeing of students. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal). Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
