Building Principal Position Summary The Middle School Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining a welcoming, well- organized library program that supports student achievement, literacy, research, technology skills, and a love of reading. The librarian collaborates with teachers and administrators to provide resources and learning experiences that meet the academic and developmental needs of students in grades 5-8. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive library program aligned with curriculum and student needs. Maintain a clean, organized, attractive, and welcoming library environment. Promote literacy and a love of reading through engaging activities, displays, programs, and events. Plan and coordinate a minimum of two book fairs each school year. Collaborate with teachers to support classroom instruction, research, information literacy, and technology integration. Teach students effective research, information-literacy, digital-literacy, and digital- citizenship skills. Select, organize, maintain, and evaluate library materials and resources. Maintain accurate circulation, inventory, and collection records. Ensure books, technology, furniture, and other library resources are properly maintained and cared for. Provide a structured, positive, and student-centered environment that encourages independent learning and exploration. Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. Support school-wide initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration Required Qualifications Strong knowledge of literacy, research, information resources, and educational technology. Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively engage and support middle school students. Commitment to maintaining a professional, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a school librarian or library/media specialist. Experience working with students in grades 5-8. Experience coordinating book fairs, literacy events, and student reading initiatives. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology and digital resources into instruction.
