We are guided by the essential values of Torah , Avodah , and Tikkun Olam . The Role We are seeking a visionary and collaborative Librarian to serve as the intellectual heart of our schoolhouse. More than a curator of books, our Librarian is a leader, coach, and vital resource for students, faculty, and families. The ideal candidate is a practitioner of modern information science who understands that literacy in the 21st century encompasses digital, visual, and textual landscapes. We are looking for an educator who models our core values of kindness and responsibility, possesses an infectious love of learning, and brings both a sense of humor and proactive initiative to our community.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership & Media Literacy:
Design and deliver a forward-thinking K-6 curriculum that merges information science with critical media literacy. Empower students to navigate a complex information ecosystem by teaching them to evaluate source credibility, recognize bias, and understand the ethical implications of emerging technologies like AI.Literacy Advocacy & Curation:
Cultivate a joyful, vibrant reading culture through high-interest book talks, author visits, and personalized recommendations. Curate a diverse collection of print and digital resources that serves as both a "mirror and a window," ensuring every student feels seen and inspired to develop a lifelong reading habit.Pedagogical Collaboration:
Act as a research coach and partner to faculty. Co-design inquiry-based projects and integrate specialized library resources into classroom units, moving students from passive consumers of information to active, ethical creators.Strategic Library Management:
Oversee the library's entire ecosystem, including budget management, circulation systems, and the physical evolution of the space. Ensure the library remains a functional, modern hub that balances traditional print with cutting-edge digital resources.Community Hub & Engagement:
Maintain the library as a warm, inclusive "sanctuary of stories" for students. Lead high-impact community programs, such as the annual book fair, that serve as a bridge between technology, pedagogy, and the joy of literacy for our families.Professional Innovation:
Actively contribute to the school's professional growth and stay at the forefront of trends in children's literature, educational technology, and information science to ensure the library remains a hub for exploration and collaborative problem-solving. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field (MLIS preferred). State certification as a School Librarian or Media Specialist. Experience working with elementary-age students. Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
