The Librarian II provides professional library services and supports the planning and delivery of high-quality library services for the Clearview Library District. This role serves patrons of all ages, with an emphasis in youth services, and provides leadership and supervision to a team of program specialists. The position also participates in the Most Responsible Person (MRP) rotation, including regular evening and weekend coverage. Essential Functions Supervision & Staff Support Assists in recruiting, training, and evaluating branch program specialists (youth and adult), ensuring candidates align with the library's mission and needs of the library. Supports leadership in tracking and monitoring building usage. Promotes and supports staff professional development by encouraging continuous learning opportunities and providing mentorship to foster growth and skill-building. Oversees service points, ensuring adequate coverage and robust patron support, working closely with leadership to develop service point standards. Services Provides reader's advisory services for all ages. Assists patrons with the use of the library and its resources. Creates title lists and other such material to promote collections. Attends and participates in library committees, and contributes to cooperative efforts to support system-wide services, functions, and programs. Works closely with the Programming and Engagement team to maintain relationships with families, schools, and other agencies serving children and families. Promotes digital literacy by guiding patrons in the effective use of computers, online resources, and emerging technologies. Monitors patron use of library space, upholds library policies, and escalates issues of concern to the Senior Manager or Library Director. Programming Works closely with the Programming and Engagement team in planning and conducting a regular schedule of dynamic programs and events for all ages. Facilitates programs as needed. Contributes to the gathering and analysis of library use statistics. Promotes equitable access to library resources and services. Collection Development Serves as a subject matter advisor for the youth collection, monitoring use, inventory, trends, and makes recommendations accordingly. Collaborates closely with the Collection Development librarian to develop, evaluate, and maintain vibrant and relevant print materials, non-print materials (audio books, DVDs), digital materials and other age appropriate items for the collections. Other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility Supervises a team of programming specialists. This position will, at times, serve as the Most Responsible Person (MRP) and will be regularly scheduled as part of the MRP rotation, including rotating weekend and evening coverage. Education and Experience Required Requires a Master's degree in Library Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include at least two years of experience in a public library setting serving children and families, as well as experience with collection development. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Stays current on emerging library trends, new and current technologies, and takes responsibility for their own professional development. Ability to work a varied schedule depending on library programs and needs. Proven ability to conduct successful library programs in various settings. Knowledge of current trends in library service as it relates to collection development and programming. Ability to establish relationships and adapt communication style to effectively engage with a wide range of ages. Demonstrated ability to think analytically, exercise initiative, and act in the best interest of the library. Ability to speak publicly with enthusiasm and friendliness, and effectively present in a variety of settings. Work Environment Position requires being up and moving around the Library and at times stationary at work station. The job requires stooping, bending, squatting, stretching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (with keyboard, shelving), eye-hand coordination, data entry and computer use for accessing information. Cultivate Curiosity. $73,076.89 - $87,692.27 per year
