Job Description

The Public Service Librarian manages the activities and operations of the Library. This staff member's work involves circulation, reference, online services, bibliographic instruction, course reserves, and interlibrary loan/document delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises all aspects of Public Services. Establishes policies, standards, and procedures for the department in all areas of public service. Provides reference and research assistance to patrons. Provides library instruction when called upon by academic faculty. Serves as public services liaison with faculty, soliciting faculty input and coordinating academic initiatives between library and academics. Establishes and maintains access to electronic resources. Oversees the physical layout of the public area of the library. Runs and analyzes library usage statistics. Serves as Systems Librarian for the library s Integrated Library System (WorldShare Management System). Maintains the library s website. Takes the lead in hiring and training staff.
EDUCATION
Bachelor s degree from four-year college. Master s degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent .
EXPERIENCE
At least three years spent professionally in an academic environment, either in the Library or at an academic position. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATION
Master s degree from an ALA-Accredited program or equivalent.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Position requires sitting for long periods of time and the visual and manual ability to use a computer keyboard. Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of up to 40 lbs and the ability to push a fully loaded book cart. Packing and unpacking boxes of books may be required.
