Requirements This position reports directly to the Associate Librarian of Public Services and is responsible for overseeing all library circulation activities and related recordkeeping, including the issuance and return of library materials; assigning work to library staff; and training library assistants in computerized circulation functions, including ALMA and Primo. Direct and coordinates the activities of Library Assistants and OPS staff, including assigning job duties and verifying the accuracy and completion of assignments; Develop staff work schedules and establishes appropriate coverage for the Law Library circulation desk; Train Library Assistants and OPS staff in computerized circulation functions and library systems, including ALMA and Primo; Perform and provide guidance on all circulation services, including discharging and renewing library materials; registering and re-registering patrons; processing reserves and system-level hold requests; routing interlibrary loan requests; and managing fines; Interpret and applies library policies, procedures, rules, and established circulation guidelines. Provide circulation desk coverage as needed to ensure continuity of library services; Prepare monthly and annual reports of circulation activity and library patronage, including total patronage, group study room usage, interlibrary loan activity, and other relevant statistics; Recommend appropriate reading and reference materials to support patron and library service needs; Maintain regular and punctual attendance and ensures assigned circulation responsibilities are completed in accordance with established procedures; Make recommendations regarding the recruitment, employment, promotion, retention, and staffing needs of assigned unit personnel. Participate in the periodic evaluation of assigned employees, including annual and temporary/OPS staff; Participate in special projects and professional development activities, including involvement in appropriate regional and national library associations; Recommend the use and selection of appropriate reading and reference materials to support Law Library services and patron needs; Participate in collection development activities, including identifying collection needs and concerns and assisting with the selection, evaluation, updating, and weeding of library materials, as directed by the Assistant Director of Public Services; Participate in and provides support for special projects and other Law Library initiatives as assigned; Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications MLS degree (a masters degree in library science) Competencies Knowledge of library reference, circulation, cataloging methods, and bibliographic information resources; Knowledge of library operations, policies, procedures, and best practices; Proficiency with library information systems and related technology, including ALMA and Primo; Ability to remain current with evolving library technologies, systems, and resources and effectively communicate changes to staff and library patrons; Ability to maintain accurate records, compile statistical data, and prepare reports related to library operations and services; Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions regarding routine and non-routine operational matters; Ability to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, staff, students, library patrons, and members of the public; Ability to supervise and provide direction to assigned staff; Knowledge of supervisory practices, including work delegation, scheduling, staff training, performance evaluation, and employee development; Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and ensure timely and accurate completion of work; Ability to maintain effective working relationships and provide professional, courteous, and service-oriented assistance; Demonstrated experience with library systems and technologies, including ALMA or comparable integrated library systems; and, Supervisory or lead-worker experience, including experience assigning work, scheduling, training, and evaluating staff.
