Woodruff Library is a collaborative, service-oriented Social Science Librarian. The Social Sciences Librarian serves as the primary subject liaison for Education, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Government Documents, Human Services, and Kinesiology, Sports Studies & Physical Education. The position provides research support, information literacy instruction, collection development, and faculty outreach to advance teaching, learning, and scholarly research. Social Science Librarian Role:
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program Academic background or demonstrated subject knowledge in one or more assigned subject areas, including the social sciences, business, education, criminal justice, social work, public administration, human services, kinesiology, or related disciplines. Familiarity with research methodologies, scholarly communication, and teaching practices in the social sciences and related disciplines. Experience providing reference, research assistance, instruction, and/or liaison services in an academic or research library setting Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated commitment to equity, access, cultural competency, and student success.
Preferred Experience & Credentials:
Second graduate degree or significant graduate coursework in a relevant subject area such as Business, Economics, Education, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Administration, Human Services, Kinesiology, or a related discipline. Experience with collection development and assessment in the social sciences, business, education, or related subject areas. Experience supporting data literacy, government information, statistics, or other specialized research resources. Familiarity with digital scholarship, data resources, emerging research technologies, and/or other tools that support social science research and teaching. Experience working in a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), minority-serving institution, or culturally specific academic setting.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources, research strategies, and information literacy into courses, assignments, capstone experiences, and other academic projects. Develop and maintain subject-specific Research Guides, bibliographies, instructional materials, and other online research resources tailored to the needs of AUC students and faculty. Develop and manage library collections in assigned subject areas by evaluating print and electronic resources and recommending materials that support the curriculum, current scholarship, and the research needs of the AUC community. Participate in library outreach, workshops, public programming, assessment initiatives, professional development, library governance, and collaborative projects that advance the mission and strategic priorities of the AUC Woodruff Library.
