Xavier Catholic Schools is hiring a part-time library/media associate for St Joseph Catholic Schools! This is a position for the 2026-2027 school year.

As a leader in a Catholic educational system, the Library Media Specialist is expected to model and promote the mission of forming disciples unafraid to follow Jesus Christ. The Library Media Specialist fosters a Christ-centered, respectful, and ethical work environment and upholds Catholic identity through every aspect of their leadership and decision making.
Position Summary:
The Library Media Specialist assists with daily library operations, including organizing materials, helping students and staff locate resources, and provided general student assistance in the building as needed.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Library and Information Services
Manage the school library/media center, including collection development, cataloging, and circulation of print and digital resources.
Assist students and staff in locating and selecting materials for research, leisure reading, and academic enrichment
Develop and maintain an organized and user-friendly library environment conducive to independent learning and collaborative inquiry
Digital Literacy and Technology Integration
Collaborate with teachers to integrate technology tools and digital resources into curriculum-based instruction, supporting student learning objectives and standards
Provide instruction and support to students and staff in information literacy, digital citizenship, and responsible use of technology
Facilitate access to online databases, e-books, educational apps, and multimedia resources to enhance learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom
Multimedia Production and Promotion
Create and curate multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, digital presentations, and interactive learning modules, to support instructional goals and engage students
Promote library/media center programs and resources through newsletters, social media platforms, and other communication channels to increase awareness and usage among students, staff, and parents
Collaborate with student groups and clubs to develop media projects and showcase student work through digital platforms and school events
Information Literacy Instruction
Plan and deliver library instruction sessions and workshops to teach students research skills, critical thinking, and information evaluation strategies
Collaborate with classroom teachers to design inquiry-based learning experiences and projects that integrate information literacy skills across the curriculum
Assess student learning outcomes related to information literacy and media literacy, providing feedback and support for continuous improvement
Professional Development and Collaboration
Stay informed about current trends and best practices in library/media services, educational technology, and digital media production
Participate in professional development opportunities, conferences, and networking events to enhance knowledge and skills in library science and media education
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community stakeholders to promote the role of the library/media center as a hub for learning, innovation, and community engagement
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's or master's degree in library science, education, instructional technology, or a related field.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis
Practicing Catholic preferred
Certification as a school librarian/media specialist (if required by state or district)
Experience working in a school library/media center or similar educational setting, preferably with experience in technology integration and digital media production
Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in library management systems, educational technology tools, and multimedia software applications
Strong communication, collaboration, and instructional skills, with the ability to engage diverse learners and promote information literacy skills
Commitment to fostering a culture of reading, inquiry, and digital citizenship within the school community
Adaptability and creativity in responding to evolving educational needs and technological advancements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
