Underground Utility Construction Laborer Driessen Construction Cedar Rapids, IA Job Details Part-time $18 - $22 an hour 8 hours ago Qualifications Heavy lifting Construction site experience Construction experience Full Job Description Overview Join our team as an Underground Utility Construction Laborer and be a vital part of maintaining essential telecommunications infrastructure. In this role, you will assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility systems, including fiber optic cables and network infrastructure. Your hands-on work will directly contribute to supporting modern communication networks. This position offers an opportunity to develop technical skills in outdoor construction environments while working alongside experienced professionals committed to safety and excellence. Responsibilities Assist with the excavation and installation of copper and fiber optic cables, duct, hand holes, man holes and pedestals. Assist excavator operator by acting as a spotter while performing excavations. Ability to occasionally operate heavy equipment such as mini excavators, skid loaders and other construction machinery safely and efficiently to facilitate underground utility work.. Perform telecommunication outside plant operations, including cable pulling, trenching, back filling, and conduit installation in outdoor environments. Utilize hand tools, power tools, and climbing techniques safely while adhering to safety protocols for outdoor work and telecommunications infrastructure projects. Qualifications Experience in outdoor construction or utility installation projects with a focus on telecommunications or fiber optic networks is preferred but will train the right individual. Familiarity with telecommunications systems. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as mini excavators and skid loaders in various weather conditions with outdoor work experience preferred. Excellent physical fitness for manual labor tasks involving digging, lifting power tools, and handling heavy equipment. Strong safety awareness with a commitment to following safety protocols during all phases of construction activities. Flexibility is a must. While some of our projects are scheduled ahead of time, most of our work is responding to emergencies. As a result, the ideal candidate would need to be able to report to work on short notice. $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
