Follows the Nantucket Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement, including contract year dates and stipulations.JOB SUMMARY
The Elementary Library Teacher fosters a love of reading and lifelong learning by providing students with access to a diverse collection of literature and digital resources. This role supports literacy development, research skills, and digital citizenship while collaborating with educators to integrate library resources into the curriculum. The Library Teacher creates a welcoming and inclusive library environment, ensuring equitable access to materials that support students' academic and personal growth.QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Library/Information Science, Education, or a related field. Valid Massachusetts teacher certification as a Library Teacher or equivalent. Experience working with elementary-age students, preferably in a school library setting. Strong instructional skills in literacy, research, and technology integration. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to support students, staff, and families. Proficiency in library management systems and educational technology tools. Ability to create an inclusive and culturally responsive library environment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Literacy Support:
Develops and delivers engaging library instruction to students in grades Prek-2, fostering reading appreciation, research skills, and digital literacy. Collaborates with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom curriculum and support student learning across content areas. Guides students in developing information literacy skills, including evaluating sources, ethical research practices, and responsible digital citizenship. Encourages independent reading by recommending age-appropriate books and fostering discussions about literature. Provides targeted reading support to students with diverse learning needs.Library Management & Collection Development:
6. Maintains and curates a diverse, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate library collection that reflects student interests, curricular needs, and varied perspectives. 7. Evaluates, selects, and procures books, digital resources, and media based on school and district priorities. 8. Organizes and maintains the library space to be inviting, accessible, and conducive to student engagement. 9. Implements and oversees library circulation, cataloging, and inventory management systems. 10. Designs dynamic book displays and promotions to encourage reading and library use.Technology & Digital Literacy:
11. Integrates educational technology and digital tools into library instruction, promoting 21st-century learning skills. 12. Supports students and teachers in utilizing online databases, research tools, and other digital resources. 13. Provides guidance on media literacy, including evaluating online information and understanding digital footprints. 14. Assists in the management and maintenance of technology used for library and instructional purposes.Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities:
15. Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in literacy, library science, and educational technology. 16. Works closely with school staff, administration, and district personnel to align library programming with school-wide goals. 17. Communicates with families about library programs, book fairs, and literacy initiatives. 18. Develops and manages the library budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources. 19. Participates in school-wide initiatives, staff meetings, and committees as needed.Position Type:
