Job Description

The Division of Library and Information Resources/H.T. Sampson Library is accepting applications for its Research and Instruction Librarian position. Provides basic and in-depth reference services and research consultation to faculty, students, and staff. Design and deliver engaging library instruction sessions, create online research guides (LibGuides), and embed digital learning modules into the university's Learning Management System (Canvas). conduct workshops and library tours. Creates and maintains instructional materials (online videos and tutorials), and research guides, using appropriate learning management software, new media production tools, online and mobile learning tools. Coordinates with Interim Executive Director/Dean of library Services and Library Liaisons to actively build professional relationships with faculty, students, and staff in assigned academic programs and across the university to develop research and instructional service strategies. Actively engage with collection building in support of research and teaching needs of faculty and students of assigned academic programs. Will design and implement assessment tools to evaluate student instructional effectiveness and gather feedback for further opportunities of improvement and impact on student learning. Will lead the library efforts in social media and digitizing efforts in collaboration with other librarians. Will collaborate and work with Jake Ayers Research Library faculty and students at the e-Center and JSUOnline. Will coordinate relevant visual displays observing major university and national calendar observations. Will share nights and weekends schedules. Master's degree from an ALA accredited library and information science program. Experience in planning and/or providing information literacy instruction or other teaching experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to work well independently and as a team member. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Knowledge of information literacy, academic library organization trends, practices, and issues. Demonstrated abilities in research, scholarly work, and professional services. Academic degree or academic subject background.
Technical Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency with library discovery tools, research databases, and applications (e.g , LibOuides, LihCal). Experience using Learning Management Systems and virtual conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) for instructional delivery. Strong digital literacy. including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and academic research tools. Ability to move, position, or transport library materials, equipment, or boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to navigate library stacks, access materials on low or high shelving, and remain in a stationary position or move about during teaching sessions.
