Job Description

Position Summary:
New York Automotive & Diesel Institute seeks an organized, student-focused School Librarian to manage library services, resources, and learning support for ~450 students, 25 faculty, and campus administrators. The librarian will maintain a modern trade-school library including print and digital collections, technical manuals, audiovisual media, and subscription databases. Additionally, the librarian will partner with faculty to support curriculum, workforce-readiness, and student success. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day library operations: circulation, reserves, lending policies, room scheduling, and patron services for students, faculty, and staff. Maintain and develop collections relevant to automotive, diesel, and other skilled trades: acquisitions, cataloging/classification (MARC/RDA or equivalent), labeling, physical processing, and deaccessioning.
Oversee digital resources:
e-books, databases, online manuals, and vendor relationships; ensure accessibility and up-to-date licensing. Provide research, reference, and information literacy support to students and faculty; teach short workshops or one-on-one sessions on research skills, citation, technical documentation use, and digital tools. Collaborate with faculty to align library resources with course curricula, program outcomes, and accreditation requirements, support course material lists and reserve copies. Conduct regular inventory, asset tracking, and condition assessments of library materials and equipment; manage repair, replacement, and loss procedures. Maintain an integrated library system (ILS) / catalog and generate usage and circulation reports to inform purchasing and budgeting. Manage library budget within guidelines; prepare purchase orders and recommend acquisitions based on needs and trends in the trades. Ensure compliance with copyright, fair use, and licensing; provide guidance on reproduction and distribution of technical materials. Supervise student workers or part-time library assistants; set schedules and provide training. Support campus events, orientations, and outreach to promote library services and resources. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and recordkeeping relevant to an educational training environment. Qualifications Required Master's degree in library science, education, information science, or a related field; OR bachelor's degree plus 2+ years of progressively responsible library experience in an educational or technical setting. Familiarity with trade/technical collections (automotive, diesel, aviation, HVAC, welding) or demonstrated ability to learn technical content quickly. Experience with cataloging, collection development, and integrated library systems (ILS) or library management software. Strong customer-service orientation; experience supporting diverse student populations, including adult learners. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Ability to work on-site and manage physical materials handling (shelving, shelving maintenance, occasional lifting up to ~25 lbs.). Preferred Master's in library and information science (MLIS) or equivalent. Experience in a postsecondary career-technical or vocational training environment. Familiarity with electronic resource management, e-book platforms, and technical/manual databases. Experience with instruction or training delivery and creating instructional guides/tutorials. Conditions In-person role, typical campus hours with occasional evening or weekend events. Active support role in a hands-on trades training environment (noise, shop areas nearby).
