The Youth Librarian creates, implements, and presents department and community programs for youth and youth-related programs for parents, caregivers, and teachers.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and conducts programs for youth to encourage engagement with Library resources. Serves the community and schools through outreach programming, teacher collections, and other Library services. Compiles customer and programming statistics. Maintains youth collection. Assists customers with various technologies. Performs reference and readers' advisory services. Interprets the Library's policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner. Ensures public safety protocols are followed, including incident reporting and necessary follow-up. Circulates materials to customers, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering customers, and collecting fees. Participates in the location's shared responsibilities, including, but not limited to, desk set up, bookdrop, delivery, shelf reading, ILS reports, supply orders, and filling interagency requests. Participates in community outreach events. Serves as the person in charge in the absence of leadership and may direct the work of staff when designated. Supports and advances the Library's mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information. Embraces and embodies the Library's core beliefs, strategic priorities and pillars of excellence. Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science. Knowledge of youth customer interests related to Library materials, programs, and services. Skill in customer service. Ability to plan and conduct programs for youth and family audiences. Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision. Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library. Lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying them short distances [50 feet or less] is required. Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds is required. Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in Library and Information Science is required.Certifications or licensure:
A driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Library's insurance provider are required.Years of relevant experience:
Two or more years is preferred.Years of experience supervising:
None.HOURS:
40 hours per week, including evenings and weekendsSALARY:
