Part-Time Children's Librarian Location:
Delmont Public Library, Delmont, Pennsylvania Hours:
Approximately 15 hours per week; occasional additional hours may be required for library programs, events, and other special activities. Must be available to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts.Salary:
Hourly rate based on experience and qualifications Reports to: Library Director Position Overview Delmont Public Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dependable Part-Time Children's Librarian to join our small, community-focused team. The Children's Librarian is responsible for developing engaging programs and providing library services for children from birth through their teens and their families. This position requires a passion for children's literature, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to create welcoming, educational, and entertaining experiences for young patrons. The Children's Librarian will work under the supervision of the Library Director and collaborate with other staff members to support the library's mission and serve patrons of all ages. Key Responsibilities Plan, promote, and conduct age-appropriate programs and activities for children and teens, including storytimes, crafts, educational events, and the annual Summer Reading Program. Develop creative programming that encourages literacy, learning, and community engagement. Assist children and caregivers with selecting books, resources, and other library materials. Provide readers' advisory and basic reference assistance to children and families. Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, organized, and safe environment in the children's area. Stay informed about trends in children's and young adult literature, programming, and issues affecting children and teens. Organize and maintain children's and young adult materials and resources. Create displays that promote library materials, programs, services, and seasonal themes. Promote library programs and services through community outreach and publicity efforts. Create promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, newsletters, social media content, and press releases as needed. Assist patrons with the online catalog, electronic resources, library equipment, and other services. Perform circulation duties, including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and assisting with patron accounts. Track program participation, expenses, and other information as required. Plan programs and purchase supplies while remaining within established budgets. Collaborate with the Library Director, staff, volunteers, and community organizations to create a cohesive and engaging library experience. Assist with general library operations and perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled. Previous experience working with children, preferably in a library, school, childcare, or educational setting. Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills. Ability to communicate effectively with children, caregivers, coworkers, and community members. Creativity and enthusiasm for developing educational and entertaining programs. Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through on programs, services, and projects. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team. Basic computer and technology skills. Ability to obtain and maintain all clearances required by Pennsylvania law, including: o Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance o Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance o FBI fingerprint-based background check Preferred Qualifications Degree or coursework in Library Science, Education, Child Development, or a related field. Experience planning and presenting programs for children or teens. Familiarity with library circulation systems, online catalogs, and electronic resources. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating flyers, brochures, newsletters, social media content, or press releases. Experience planning programs and managing a budget.
