Job Description

Long-term Substitute Upper & Middle School Librarian Westtown School seeks an experienced, student-centered librarian for a temporary, part-time leave replacement for approximately 13 weeks, September 21 through December 18, 2026. This is a part-time position with typical hours of 8:30 AM to 2:30 or 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. The Mary Hutton Biddle Library at Westtown School serves 530 students in grades 6 - 12th, in an active, welcoming environment. Responsibilities will include supervising the reference/circulation desk; teaching research skills; and assisting students and faculty with independent research. Experience working with young adults in a school library setting and facility with digital citizenship and online searching are required. Westtown School is an independent Quaker, Pre-K12 day and boarding school located on a 600-acre campus in West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles west of Philadelphia. Essential ResponsibilitiesSupervise the reference/circulation desk to support a library environment that encourages learning and fosters appropriate student conduct when using the library and its resources;Familiarity with middle grade and young adult literature, information literacy and research skills, and instructional technology;Support community members in their understanding of copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property;Engage in decision-making aligned with Quaker process in service to the school community;Contribute to building and sustaining an inclusive community and a program that reflects diverse cultures and perspectives;Communicate effectively with all constituents colleagues, administrators, parents, and students;Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsBachelors degree required; advanced degree in Library Science preferred;3 or more years of relevant experience;Familiarity with Follett Destiny, Google Workspace, and learning management systems such as Canvas, and the ability to incorporate technology effectively into instructional practices;Demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students throughout our diverse community;Alignment with Westtown Schools mission and an educational philosophy consistent with the schools Quaker values.
