Job Description

Provide a variety of library services for children, teens, and adults.
SALARY:

REPORTS TO
Children's Librarian, Young Adult Librarian
POSITIONS SUPERVISED
None 1. Assist patrons in the use of on-line catalog and use of library materials and resources. 2. Preview new youth materials and maintain currency with youth literature. 3. Assist staff with program and activity preparations. 4. Record monthly statistics of activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. One year of library experience beyond the page level, or one-year teaching experience. An Associate Degree in childhood development can also substitute for experience. 3. Experience working with children or teens in a structured environment. 4. Experience with personal computers and computerized library system preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1.
Demonstrated knowledge of classic and current children's or youth adult literature. 2. Knowledge and use of office equipment and visual aid equipment. 3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
OTHER 1. A SKILLS TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED TO ALL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES. 2.
This position requires a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.
JOB CONTACTS
Frequent business contact with other employees in own department , and continuous routine public contacts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision required; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
General office where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).
