Job Description

NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, provides a range of basic library services. Entry-level position requiring considerable public contact. Includes evening and weekend shifts.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Assists public with circulation, registration, reserves, and inter-library loans. Answers routine reference and information requests. Shows patrons how to use the library catalog and locate materials. Notifies individuals of overdue items. Assists public with library equipment including copier, fax machine, printers, computers, and their related software. Troubleshoots minor equipment and software malfunctions. Sorts and shelves library materials. Checks-in new periodicals. Investigates duplicate and missing issues. Prepares order forms for gifts and new materials. May recommend titles for purchase. Compiles statistics. Collects and records fines and fees. Reconciles daily financial logs. Cleans, mends and repairs damaged materials. Responsible for operating library during supervisor's absence.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully and courteously. Ability to understand and apply library policies and procedures. Ability to maintain composure when handling complaints. Ability to learn standard library principles and practices. Ability to operate general office equipment with minimal training. Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform clerical tasks with neatness and precision. Ability to gather and record statistical data accurately. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with branch and district staff.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Some experience with common office equipment, general clerical skills including typing and filing, and basic computer skills, or any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Positions is in classified service and is FLSA non-exempt) This position's hourly pay is $15.15 ALL
