This position assists community members with accessing library resources, technology, and services, helping create a welcoming environment that encourages exploration, connection, and lifelong learning. Through outstanding service and teamwork, this role advances the Henderson County Public Library's mission of being the welcoming heart of Henderson County, offering hospitality, community, possibilities, and learning for all. Essential Responsibilities Deliver Hospitality in Service by welcoming patrons with warmth, respect, kindness, and responsive customer service in person and by telephone. Provide circulation services using the library's integrated library system, including checking materials in and out, registering library cards, processing holds, and collecting applicable fees. Assist patrons with locating library materials, using the online catalog, accessing digital resources, and operating public computers, printers, copiers, and other library equipment. Provide basic readers' advisory and reference assistance, referring more complex questions to appropriate staff when needed. Support opening and closing procedures and help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment. Assist with collection maintenance, physical processing of materials, minor repairs, overdue materials processing, and meeting room setup as assigned. Protect the confidentiality of library users and records while following library policies, procedures, and the principles of intellectual freedom. Collaborate with colleagues across departments to provide excellent public service and support library programs and daily operations. Demonstrate Community through Stewardship by responsibly managing library resources and contributing to efficient library operations. Support Learning for All by helping patrons access library collections, technology, and services that meet their educational, recreational, and informational needs. Provide outstanding customer service by welcoming patrons and colleagues with warmth, respect, and kindness, reflecting our commitment to Hospitality in Service . Qualifications Must be at least 16 years of age and have earned or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED. Public library or customer service experience preferred. Working knowledge of computers and basic office technology required. Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Ability to work cooperatively with patrons and staff from diverse backgrounds. Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively in a busy public service environment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to accurately organize materials using alphabetical, numerical, chronological, and Dewey Decimal order. Work Schedule Part-time. Schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional special events.

Reports To Public Services Manager and Executive Director NOTE:

All employees of the Henderson County Public Library are required to maintain the capacity to: 1) provide professional, high-quality service to patrons and staff while promoting a welcoming, inclusive, and informed environment for all; 2) exhibit strong organizational skills when working both independently and collaboratively with a variety of people and situations; 3) demonstrate proficiency with computers, common office software, current operating systems, emailing, and internet navigation; 4) operate basic work equipment such as print/scan/fax/copy machines, cash registers, book carts, manual tools, audio/visual equipment, and multi-line communications systems, with sufficient mobility to lift and/or handle library materials weighing up to 25-50 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodations); 5) maintain the confidentiality of library users and records, and 6) work in a public library environment that may include the potential for exposure to possible contaminants including (but not limited to) noise, arts and crafts chemicals, ink on printed pages, dust and mold, animals, cleaning chemicals, as well as the spread of communicable disease.
