Job Description

Library Assistant, Elizabeth Taber Library (Marion)

The Elizabeth Taber Library in Marion, MA is seeking a part-time library assistant to fulfill these essential functions:

  • Provides library customer service at the main desk: checks materials in and out, renews materials; inspects materials for damage and assesses charges; reserves items; and registers new patrons.
  • Assists patrons in use of on-line computer catalogs; helps to locate materials; explains library rules and regulations.
  • Operates computers and computer equipment: enters data, modifies records, accesses files, and operates copy machines.
  • Provides basic technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Provides reader's advisory and basic ready reference assistance.
  • Shelves materials; ensuring materials on shelves are in order.
  • Maintains patron privacy and confidentiality.
  • Fulfills opening and closing procedures.
  • Ability to bend and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Performs related tasks as needed.

The position is 18 hours per week with the following schedule: Tuesday 4:00pm-8:00pm, Thursday 4:00pm-8:00pm, and Saturday 10:00am-3:00pm. There are opportunities to fill in additional hours as needed. Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously with the public and colleagues.

Ability to prioritize and to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Computer experience required. Customer service experience is preferred.

Library experience is preferred. Minimum of a High School diploma required. Associates degree or higher is preferred. Full/Part Time
