Job Description
Library Assistant, Raynham Public Library (Raynham)
The Raynham Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to join our staff. This is a 19 hour/week, non-union, non benefited position. Hours will be a combination of days and nights plus a Saturday rotation every three weeks. Saturday hours are 10-4. This position reports to the Circulation Supervisor.
Successful candidates will have exceptional customer service skills and enjoy working with the public. Candidates will provide friendly service to our patrons, work together with staff to provide a positive environment, and have intermediate level computer skills. Previous library experience preferred but not required. This position primarily serves adults at the Main Desk.
Essential job functions:
- Performs a variety of library support services at the Main Desk; checking materials in and out, renewing materials, processing reserves/holds, issuing library cards, and other basic circulation functions.
- Assists patrons in locating materials in the library and in the library catalog.
- Creates social media posts and other promotional material.
- Includes technical service duties such as processing materials and copy cataloging.
- Assists patrons in the use of technology, must possess an ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
- Assists patrons with electronic and digital resources including downloadable books, music, and other media across a variety of devices.
- Shelves materials, is assigned shelf reading, and maintains shelf order.
- Weeds materials in the collection.
- Answers the phone.
- Other duties as assigned by the Circulation Supervisor. Qualifications Knowledge, skills, & abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, ability to effectively interact with patrons in a friendly and courteous manner, ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.
- Intermediate level computer skills; Windows 11, GDrive, pcs, printers, etc.
- WordPress, Canva, and Meta Business Suite experience a plus.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks within established timeframes, and work with frequent interruptions.
- Maintain patron privacy and confidentiality of patron records.
