Position Type Part Time Leave Format Staff Shift Evening Supervisor Title Director of Library Services Location Main Campus (Dobson) Job Description - Summary Support staff position responsible for assisting students, faculty, and the general public in obtaining materials from the library's circulating collection. Responsible for the process of circulation of library materials. Interprets and enforces established library policies and procedures. Maintains collections of periodicals in print and electronic form.
  • This position works approximately 20 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide information and assistance to students, faculty, and library visitors in person and via e-mail and phone inquiries. Refer inquiries to Director of Library Services when needed. Provides telephone assistance (answering Library phone). Provide directional assistance to library users, since their first point of contact may be at Circulation Desk. Assist patrons in use of copying or other equipment in area. Use the library circulation system to perform circulation services. Interpret and enforce circulation policies and procedures for students, faculty, staff, and community users. Develop and keep current documentation for circulation procedures. Shelf-reading and general stack maintenance. Keep morning circulation assistant informed of daily activities. Participate in shelf reading and collection inventories. Participate in training with library system and databases. Cross training in other areas of library. Other duties as assigned. General Qualifications
LANGUAGE SKILLS
:
  • Excellent command of the English language, ability to communicate with patrons.
Excellent oral and written communication.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:
  • Ability to apply and understand standard mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division for monetary transactions.
REASONING ABILITY
:
  • Ability to define problems, apply critical thinking skills, handle student complaints, etc.
OTHER SKILLS and
ABILITIES
:
  • Attention to detail, excellent customer service principles, work in high traffic area with many interruptions, problem solving approach to new situations, flexibility in changing situations.
Required Qualifications Associate's Degree Excellent customer service skills, functional skills with MS Office software, ability to work well independently and with other, organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work flow. Preferred Qualifications Technical library knowledge and experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations N/A Physical Demands
  • Able to move book trucks when loaded (at least 60-75 lbs.), sitting bending, stooping, walking.
  • General office work environment, subject to normal temperature variations.
  • Shelving books requires stooping, crouching, reaching, and normal walking.
  • At desk, must be able to stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be able to use fingers and hands to pick up books, type on keyboards, and input data.
  • Must be able to grasp books and move them about in the normal circulation process.
  • Repetitive motions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment
