Job Description

Monmouth University is seeking applications for two part-time Library Technicians in the Guggenheim Memorial Library. The successful candidates will be expected to: check-in and check-out library materials according to the circulation department procedure/policy manual; assist in all in shelf reading and re-shelving of all library materials; perform job related duties relating to the operation of the circulation desk such as, collecting fines and issuing memberships. This is an on-campus, in-person, non-remote position.

Professional References Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students with reference questions as able when library is open and librarians are not on duty. Check in and out material, issue library memberships, collect membership and lost book fees, and answer questions about billing accounts and claims returned material. Distribute and retrieve interlibrary loan materials. Field and route telephone inquiries. Conduct and record hourly library patron counts. Provide circulation services to the University faculty, staff and students and to users not affiliated with the University. Provide information and instruction in use of library collection and equipment. Respond to general information questions. Responsible for opening and closing the building. Responsible for opening and closing desk operations and tallying financial balances, petty cash and fines/fees. Utilizing circulation module of web based library management system, verify and update patron records, place and process holds, recalls, patron blocks, checkout, check-in and renewals. Maintain and organize the Little Free Library ensuring books are neatly arranged and the collection remains clean and accessible. Assist with enforcement of library security and emergency procedures. Maintain, shelve and shelf-read material in the general collection, periodicals and microforms.
Minimum Requirements:
3 years of related experience. Experience handling cash and financial transactions. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Basic Knowledge of MS Word and Excel 2016. Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks. Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment. Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer. Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to shelve books. Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to push and pull book carts which may weight up to 20 pounds.
Preferred Requirements:
Library experience. Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel 2016 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
