Dayton Metro Library - 4.2 Dayton, OH Job Details From $15.66 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications Computer operation Word processing Computer literacy English Productivity software Technical Proficiency Full Job Description The Dayton Metro Library is recruiting for Student Success Assistant Substitutes to staff our Student Success Centers. Successful candidates will utilize library resources to assist students in grades K-12 and opportunity youth with their homework assignments or projects. They will also engage youth in a variety of literacy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities. Substitutes must work at least 8 hours during a two-week period and may be scheduled to work at any of the Library's numerous Student Success Centers. Apply today! Creates a welcoming environment that focuses on relationship building, school support and academic achievement. Assists students in grades K-12 and "opportunity youth" with homework, literacy and project needs by actively listening and having an open-ended discussion. Reviews homework assignments and provides constructive feedback. (Opportunity youth are individuals age 18-24 who are currently disconnected from school and work.) Discusses and demonstrates effective study skills such as organizing homework, proofreading, using study guides, taking notes from a textbook, and more. Ability to multi-task and assist students in a group or individual setting. Engages and encourages students in academic environment activities, including entrepreneurship and STEAM. Supports systemwide initiatives and encourages participation and completion. Proactively provides a high level of customer service and assists youth through various aspects of utilizing the library, including registering and issuing Library cards. Assists with food distribution (as well as other items) to students. Basic skill in the use of personal computer software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include: email, internet browsers, word processing, and database software. Reports participation statistics to Student Success Manager. Welcomes and assists in training volunteers. Attends orientation and participates in trainings.QUALIFICATIONS
:Communication Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to speak effectively when addressing individuals and apply active listening skills.Education and experience:
Ability to determine a student's information needs. Ability to actively listen and understand directions to assist students. Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Completion of at least one year of college or vocational school preferred; or one to two years related tutoring experience.Equipment, Tools and Materials:
Ability to use computer equipment and standard office equipment required.Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently bend, lift, reach, turn, hold, carry, grasp, walk, stand, and use keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Ability to speak and hear required. May be asked to assist with lifting food crates weighing up to 35 pounds.Technical Skills:
Ability to use computer equipment. Proficient in using email, Microsoft Office products and the Internet.Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday:
2:30-6:00 during school year;Monday-Thursday:
12:30-4:00 during the summer •Subject to change•Compensation and Benefits :
Starting hourly rate for this position is $15.66. Student Success Assistant Substitutes are NOT eligible for insurance benefits or paid time off. These positions are open until filled.
