Job Description

Job Overview Join our library team as a North Fairfield Library Clerk. In this role, you will be the friendly face patrons see when they visit, assisting with a variety of tasks that keep our library running smoothly. Your technical proficiency will support the management of our collections, ensuring easy access to resources and a welcoming environment for all visitors. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in library operations while making a positive impact on community learning and engagement. Duties Assist patrons with locating materials, using online resource databases, and navigating the library catalog system. Organize and arrange library collections following the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system for efficient retrieval. Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, guiding research efforts, and troubleshooting software or hardware issues. Maintain cleanliness and organization of shelving and storage areas to promote an inviting environment. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Excellent writing skills for documentation, reports, and correspondence with patrons or team members. Skilled in filing—alphabetical, numerical. Experience with integrated library systems (ILS), data entry, records management, and database searching. Effective communication skills to assist patrons confidently while providing clear instructions or guidance. Technical proficiency in software troubleshooting, computer skills, typing speed, and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
