Job Description

Description Job Summary :
This is a non-Librarian position. providing direct service to the public. Performs a variety of routine clerical and manual work in circulating and processing library materials and providing services to library patrons. Examples of Duties Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Assist patrons in locating and obtaining materials. Read shelves to keep inventory in order. Register new patrons and record information in database. Demonstrate on-line catalog and databases used in library to patrons. Check in and out library materials such as books, videos, and magazines. Inspect returned books for damage. Repair damage books as needed. Process new books ready for cataloging. Sort and shelf books. Understand library policies and procedures. Answer telephone and reference questions or refer to another member of staff. Use office equipment such as copier, fax, laminator, printers, and calculators. Operate computers with Windows applications including Publisher and Excel. Processes overdue charges and fines. Assist in maintaining library collections and facilities by vacuuming and dusting, picking up toys, straightening books, chairs, shelves, papers, and magazines; empty waste containers and empty book drop. Assist patrons in the selection of library materials and provide reference guidance. Schedule and assist in carrying-out special programs, including scheduling, publicity, reservations, and setting up. Accept other duties given by the director or other staff members. Attend staff meetings monthly.
Typical Qualifications Minimum Education Requirements:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college and library experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
