Stein, MD '68, FACC, FAHA Archivist and the Digital Archivist, the Archives Technician assists in the processing of archival materials for the Siegman Archives and in assisting researchers with access to the archives collections. Activities include accessioning new materials (print, electronic, and artifacts); scanning, digitizing, and describing materials for the Jefferson Digital Commons (the University's institutional repository); assisting with research inquiries and monitoring the Reading Room; and assisting the archivists with outreach and instruction activities. •This is a full-time position that provides services primarily on evenings and weekends.• Job Description Summary Provides public services to library patrons at Scott Memorial Library, Center City campus. Assists Manager of Access Services, Evening & Weekend Access Services Coordinator, and the staff of Learning Resources, Information Services, Collection Management, and University Archives in performing routine library operations and special projects. Essential Functions Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Assist the Stein Archivist and Digital Archivist with digitization projects of historical materials for ingest in the Jefferson Digital Commons (JDC) digital archives Perform archival processing activities for University records, manuscript collections, and artifacts, including re-housing, labeling, sorting, and data entry Monitor Reading Room activity to ensure proper handling, security, and care of collections Conduct the retrieval and reshelving of materials and routine collection maintenance of archival materials, special collections, and artifacts Assist with web-archiving activities to schedule and scope crawls, perform quality assurance, and create metadata for archived websites Digitize, describe, and edit digital collections, ensuring quality control of images, video files, and metadata Participate in outreach and instruction activities for the Siegman Archives and the Jefferson Digital Commons, including class visits, exhibitions, and events Provide reference assistance for remote and in-person researchers of the Siegman Archives Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required): General computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) is required. The ability to pay close attention to detail and to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy is required. Strong organization and communication skills are required.
