Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director and the Branch Manager the position works at the public service desk assisting users with basic Library functions. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists customers by issuing library cards, checking materials in & out, placing holds, & locating materials using an automated library system. Assists patrons on-site or by telephone with basic informational & directional requests. Assists customers in the use of library catalogs, computers, copiers, printers, & other equipment throughout the library. Handles fines, fees, & payments. Interprets & communicates general library policies & procedures to patrons. Operates equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers, faxes, etc. Searches for needed materials & shelves accurately according to prescribed location. Performs opening & closing procedures. Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.
Experience/Education:
High School graduate, plus two years of relevant work experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Ability to perform duties of job. Familiarity with general PC operations in Windows environment. Excellent reading & verbal ability. Knowledge of library collections & services or willingness to learn. Aptitude for detailed work. Excellent customer service skills. Good communication skills with both children & adults. This position requires night & weekend work on a rotating basis. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
