Today Job Description Position Overview The Graduate Assistant for the McGovern Library supports evening operations at Dakota Wesleyan University by providing high-quality service to students, faculty, and staff. This position blends traditional library circulation responsibilities with direct student support through student success programming, study tables, and Student Life initiatives. The Graduate Assistant plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and academically focused environment during evening hours. Primary Responsibilities Library Circulation & Public Services- Staff or monitor student workers at the circulation desk.
- Assist patrons with finding materials, using library resources and general library inquiries.
- Check materials in and out, help manage reserves, and assist with shelving and shelf-reading.
- Maintain a safe, quiet, and supportive study environment; enforce library policies respectfully.
- Close the building each night according to library procedures.
- Assist with basic technology troubleshooting (printers, Wi-Fi questions, database log-ins, etc.).
- Support library programs, workshops, and events as needed. Academic Assistance
- Assist with supporting tutoring sessions hosted in the library.
- Help facilitate study tables, ensuring a structured, purposeful academic environment.
- Communicate with Student Success staff regarding student attendance and needs.
- Provide general academic support or refer students to appropriate campus resources. Student Success Support
- Assist the Student Success Office by serving as a point of contact for students needing help in the evenings.
- Offer guidance on time management, study strategies, or resource navigation when appropriate.
- Refer students to campus services when situations require additional support. Compensation & Benefits
- $1,000 stipend (10 months: August-May)
- 2/3 tuition waiver
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required Acceptance into the Master of Arts in Education program at Dakota Wesleyan University required Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills Commitment to student development and community building Ability to work evenings and some weekendsSimilar remote jobs
