To learn more about UT Libraries, please visit our website: https://www.lib.utexas.edu/ Purpose The Branch Supervisor manages all daily, onsite operations of the Benson Latin American Collection at the University of Texas Libraries, and liaises with other library units including InterLibrary Services, Content Management, Collection Logistics, Preservation, and Facilities, as well as departments supported by the library. Responsibilities Oversee service desk activities. Ensure excellent customer service to library users. Explain and support library policies and procedures. Provide reference assistance and referrals for Benson Latin American Collection subjects in-person and remotely. Supervise and contribute to the circulation of library materials and stacks maintenance activities. Supervise one staff member, including hiring and training. Maintain library's statistical reports. Oversee processing and supervision of course materials. Oversee materials paging and document delivery/scanning for library. Collaborate with liaison librarians, Collection Management Cross Functional Team, and Collection Logistics on collection development and space planning. Provide technical services assistance. Work with Content Management to identify and correct access problems. Provide computer assistance, troubleshoot software and equipment. Participate in departmental, unit, and library meetings. Serve on committees, functional teams, working groups, as stakeholders, and/or projects as needed and related to departmental responsibilities. Attend training initiatives as directed. Other related functions as assigned including providing intermittent service coverage for other library locations as needed. Required Qualifications High School diploma (or GED) and four years of library work experience or relevant customer service experience (retail, bookstore, service industry, etc.). Demonstrated strong user/customer service skills and orientation. Commitment to creating a welcoming library environment for all library users and staff. Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills. Comfort working with printers, scanners, and computers. Demonstrated ability to independently make decisions, manage workflows, and solve problems. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree and more than the required experience. Written and oral proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese. Experience supervising staff. Experience with Alma LSP. Demonstrated flexibility in structuring duties. Experience with an integrated library system (ILS). Strong organizational, administrative, and supervisory skills demonstrated by previous employment experience. Experience with scanning equipment and software. Experience performing circulation functions and providing reference services in an academic library. Experience opening/closing library facilities. Salary Range $46,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Typical office environment. Typical library conditions. Lifting objects, bending, kneeling, walking, standing. Work Shift Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm. Work is on-site on UT Austin campus. Position does not support remote work.
