Job Description

Are you looking to join a creative team in a fun and welcoming environment? Then the Lodi Public Library has a wonderful opportunity for you! The Lodi Public Library is seeking two creative, detail-oriented employees with warm and attentive customer service skills. The Assistant Librarian I helps patrons at the circulation desk and develops creative projects that improve the library's collection, programs, and services. This is a part-time position that includes 20 hours a week with a starting wage of $15 per hour, including some benefits, such as floating holidays, sick leave, and vacation time. We are hiring two applicants from our pool of candidates to fill our Assistant Librarian I vacancies. The schedule is flexible and shifts are evenly-shared amongst the staff, but work hours will include occasional evening and weekend shifts. To apply for this position, you must submit the following with this online City application: Cover Letter Resume References (Minimum two) Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Assistant Librarian I helps library patrons, completes daily circulation desk duties, and develops projects to improve the library's collection, programs, and services. The library serves residents of the City of Lodi, the Town of Lodi, and the surrounding region. The Lodi Public Library's mission is to be a vital partner in the broad community's quality of life. The library is committed to lifelong learning through free, non-discriminatory access to diverse information, materials, services, and programs. Performs front desk duties including, but not limited to answering the telephone and greeting patrons Organizes and conducts basic library services including but not limited to, materials check-in, holds processing, patron checkouts, records maintenance, and interlibrary loans Assists patrons with reference questions, reader's advisory, and basic technology use Prepares new materials for library circulation Coordinates and conducts assigned library services including, but not limited to, rotating collections, management of re-sale area, outer-library loan, and library programming Helps promote the library through social media Assists Library Director with collection management Advises the Library Director about patron concerns and facilities problems Attends meetings and provides presentations outside the normal work schedule, including evenings and weekends Ability to be creative and organized Ability to work with children and library patrons of various ages Knowledge of library methods, materials, and procedures and the ability to apply them Ability to perform basic computer operations Ability to operate office and audio-visual equipment Ability to communicate positively and effectively with staff and public Ability to communicate effectively with staff, public, and performers Performs other duties as assigned Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree from an accredited college. A minimum of two years' public library experience. Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin driver's license. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, library related apps and software, and able to learn or use other position specific software. Strong interpersonal skills, organization and communications skills including the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with officials, co-workers, and the public. Establish priorities and meet deadlines. Perform basic computer operations, manage an automated circulation system, and access external databases. Assume assignments and work the schedule as required by the Library Director. Maintain records efficiently and accurately. Maintain attention to detail and ability to complete tasks accurately and thoroughly. Carryout job responsibilities without direct supervision. The noise level varies from quiet to noisy.
