A Library Assistant or Technician assists librarians with organizing materials and helping patrons. Works in a public library, school library, or specialized medical, business or law library. May assist with technology resources in the library.
Nonexempt The City of Bridgeport Library is anticipating an opening for: Two (2) Library Aide positions to work as needed to cover gaps in the schedule Starting hourly rate: $12.50 These positions provide direct customer service at the Library's Help Desk and assist with maintaining organized, accessible collections. Key Responsibilities Welcome and assist community members with library services. Help patrons locate items in the library, online, or through interlibrary loan. Use library software to manage inventory and patron accounts. Assist with computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and other equipment. Handle check-in/check-out of materials and process fee payments (cash/credit). Maintain collections by cleaning, repairing, and shelving materials. Stay informed about library programs and services to answer patron questions. Ensure accurate organization of library materials using alphabetical and numeric systems. Consistently provide courteous, professional customer service. Qualifications Strong skills in alphabetical/numerical organization, spelling, and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone. Basic computer knowledge and troubleshooting skills. Customer service experience and ability to handle varied situations tactfully. Flexibility to work a variable schedule including days, evenings, and weekends. Skills & Abilities Knowledge of library operations, systems, and public services. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and online database searching. Ability to interact professionally with the public and coworkers. Cash handling and experience operating a register. Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively. Physical Demands Work performed primarily inside the library. Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, talking, and hearing. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Why Join Us?
