Instruction Assistant (Advanced Math & High School-Level English) The Lodi Kumon Center Lodi, CA Job Details Part-time From $17 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Some college Calculus English Math Organizational skills High school level tutoring experience Teaching Full Job Description Position Overview We are seeking highly capable, academically accomplished individuals to serve as Instruction Assistants in advanced mathematics and high school reading programs. This role is designed for candidates who can confidently support students in Pre-Calculus , Calculus-level math and rigorous English analysis , while modeling strong intellectual curiosity and discipline. Ideal candidates are current college students or bachelor's degree holders who possess strong subject-matter knowledge and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively. High school seniors who have completed AP Calculus AB and are currently taking AP Calculus BC are also encouraged to apply. Must be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Saturday mornings. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in Calculus or higher-level mathematics Strong command of college-level English reading and analysis Solid mental math and numerical reasoning skills Well-read in classic literature, including works such as The Great Gatsby , Brave New World , and the plays of William Shakespeare Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule Preferred Qualifications Prior tutoring or teaching experience Former participation in structured learning programs (e.g., Kumon or similar) Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and patiently Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and initiative Genuine interest in education, mentoring, and student development Key Responsibilities Support students in advanced mathematics (up to Calculus) and/or college-level reading comprehension and literary analysis Guide students in developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical writing skills Provide clear, structured explanations tailored to individual learning needs Maintain a focused, professional, and encouraging learning environment Key Skills Advanced mathematical reasoning and analytical thinking Deep reading comprehension and literary interpretation Strong mental calculation ability Clear and effective communication Organization, punctuality, and professionalism Demonstrates strong instructional judgment by identifying when correct answers lack proper reasoning and reinforcing complete, rigorous problem-solving Why Join Us Work in a rigorous academic environment with high-performing students Strengthen your own mastery of math and literature Gain valuable teaching and mentoring experience Make a meaningful impact on students' academic growth
