Job Description

The Upper School Math Development Teacher provides targeted instruction and academic support to students who would benefit from strengthening foundational mathematics skills. This position focuses on identifying and addressing skill gaps, building mathematical understanding and confidence, and helping students develop the foundational skills necessary for continued success in mathematics. The teacher may utilize an online curriculum, such as Florida Virtual School (FLVS), while serving as an in-person facilitator who provides direct instruction, clarification, guided practice, and individualized support. Working collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators, the teacher will monitor student progress and adjust support based on individual learning needs. This job role is part time and is required to be on campus from 9:45am to 11:15am.
Instruction and Curriculum:
  • Provide targeted mathematics instruction and support designed to strengthen foundational skills and address individual learning gaps.
  • Facilitate student learning through an online mathematics curriculum while supplementing digital instruction with direct teaching, guided practice, modeling, and individualized support.
  • Identify students' strengths and areas for growth and use assessment data and ongoing observation to guide instruction and intervention.
  • Help students develop mathematical reasoning, problem-solving strategies, number sense, and other foundational skills necessary for success in future mathematics coursework.
  • Differentiate instruction and support based on students' individual skill levels, learning needs, and rates of progress.
  • Provide opportunities for students to revisit concepts, practice skills, and demonstrate mastery in a supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor student engagement, progress, and completion of assigned online coursework and intervene when additional support is needed.
  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback that helps students recognize progress and identify next steps for growth.
  • Foster students' confidence, persistence, independence, and willingness to engage with challenging mathematical concepts.
Teaching and Learning Environment:
  • Create a supportive, student-centered learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, taking academic risks, and learning from mistakes.
  • Establish clear expectations and routines that encourage student responsibility, consistent effort, and productive use of class time.
  • Build positive relationships with students and develop an understanding of their individual strengths, needs, and learning profiles.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, teachers, and administrators regarding student progress and areas requiring additional support.
  • Collaborate with members of the Mathematics Department, Learning Support Services, and Upper School administration to support student growth and appropriate course placement.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other responsibilities appropriate to the part-time position.
