Job Description

About ECC:
Elgin Community College serves over 9,000 students at every stage of their educational journeys, including university transfer programs, career and technical education, continuing education classes, and adult basic education. Work Schedule:
The instructor will teach one or more non-credit courses Mon-Thurs, starting June 15 and ending July 16. Classes meet from within the range of 9:00am-12:00pm.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides free services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare students to succeed in high school and enroll in college. Services are provided during the school year and in a five-week summer program. The summer program prepares students for the upcoming academic year as they strengthen vital academic skills. This Upward Bound Adjunct Faculty position will provide instruction for high school students. Instructors are expected to provide a positive learning environment, serve as positive role models, and promote student growth and development in accordance with the Upward Bound program objectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
A bachelor's degree in the discipline or a related discipline.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Secondary or postsecondary teaching experience Passion for working with students in identifying and preparing for their post-high school opportunities, especially low-income and first-generation college students Lived experience overcoming barriers similar to the target population to be served
Essential Duties:
1. Develop course syllabus. 2. Develop lesson plans and related course materials to achieve established course learning outcomes. 3. Provide instruction as assigned. 4. Assess student learning progress in accordance with established course expectations. 5. Utilize Desire2Learning learning management system to facilitate instruction and record student grades. 6. Maintain accurate records on each participant, including course grades. 7. Attend Upward Bound staff meetings, training sessions, and other identified program activities. 8. Partner with Upward Bound staff to provide necessary student supports.
