Job Description

We are hiring experienced ELA and Mathematics Instructors/Academic Coaches for the ELEVATE out-of-school-time program serving students in grades 3-5. Candidates may apply for the ELA position, Mathematics position, or both. Please identify your preferred subject area in your application.

Indian Head, MD 20640 Work setting: In person Student grades: 3-5 Program period: October 26, 2026-June 30, 2027
Schedule:
Monday-Wednesday, generally 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Student programming:
4:00-6:30 p.m. Paid planning and preparation
Classification:
Part-time independent contractor Position Summary The ELA and Mathematics Instructors/Academic Coaches will provide engaging, standards-aligned academic instruction and intervention to elementary students during the ELEVATE after-school program. Instructors will use student performance information, including available i-Ready and school-provided data, to identify learning needs, differentiate instruction, and help students strengthen foundational academic skills. Instruction should be interactive, culturally responsive, encouraging, and appropriate for an out-of-school-time environment. Applicants may be considered for either subject area: ELA Instructor/Academic Coach The ELA Instructor will help students strengthen: Reading comprehension Vocabulary development Written expression Grammar and language skills Reading fluency Critical thinking Evidence-based responses Communication and presentation skills Mathematics Instructor/Academic Coach The Mathematics Instructor will help students strengthen: Number sense and operations Mathematical reasoning Problem-solving strategies Fractions and decimals Measurement and data Foundational geometry Math fluency Applying mathematics to real-world situations Primary Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging ELA or mathematics lessons for students in grades 3-5. Provide academic intervention and enrichment based on student needs. Use available assessment results, student work, and program data to guide instruction. Differentiate activities for students with varying academic needs and learning styles. Develop lesson plans, instructional activities, and supporting materials. Provide instructional direction to the assigned Teacher Assistant. Maintain a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment. Monitor student progress and maintain required instructional documentation. Complete attendance, lesson records, student-progress notes, and other required reports. Communicate regularly with the Program Site Coordinator and other instructional team members. Participate in approved staff meetings, orientation, training, and program-planning activities. Support safe student arrival, transitions, supervision, and dismissal. Follow all Jus One Academy, J.C. Parks Elementary School, CCPS, and MSDE program requirements. Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and all student-information protections. Communicate with families only through approved shared communication channels. Record approved service hours through Jibble or another JOA-approved timekeeping system. Submit accurate monthly invoices according to the established payment schedule. Perform other approved duties directly related to the ELEVATE program. Preferred Qualifications Current or former certified teacher. Experience using i-Ready or comparable academic-assessment data. Experience providing small-group instruction or academic intervention. Experience working in an after-school, summer, tutoring, or youth-development program. Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs. Bilingual English-Spanish communication skills are a plus.
