Job Description

Summer Recovery Mathematics Teacher at Durham Nativity School Durham Nativity School seeks a passionate and innovative Summer Recovery Mathematics Teacher for our three-week intensive summer program in July 2026 . This individual will lead a focused math program designed to solidify foundational concepts, foster critical thinking, and prepare students for the rigor of the next academic grade level. We seek a teacher who can turn "math anxiety" into "math mastery" through engaging, hands-on instruction. About Durham Nativity School Everything we do breaks down barriers, creates opportunities, and fosters belonging to ensure all our young men reach their full potential. We are a tuition-free, all-boys, independent college preparatory middle school empowering students from underserved families to achieve academic excellence. Our summer program maintains our learner-centered design with small class sizes of around 5 - 10 students to ensure personalized attention. About the Role The Summer Recovery Mathematics Teacher will be responsible for building a thriving, short-term math intensive that bridges achievement gaps.
Curriculum and Instruction:
Develop and deliver an engaging, student-centered math curriculum aligned with NCTM standards for grades 5-8. Implement project-based learning experiences that demonstrate the real-world utility of mathematical concepts. Integrate reading and writing skills into math lessons to promote a deeper understanding of word problems and logic. Utilize data to inform instruction and prepare students for success in advanced math courses. Differentiate instruction to support various learning styles and levels.
Student Support & General Responsibilities:
Foster a positive learning environment that celebrates student growth and unique contributions. Attend and actively participate in summer faculty meetings and programmatic events. Perform assigned duties such as breakfast/lunch supervision, recess, or shuttle driving as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred). Strong understanding of NCTM standards and learner-centered pedagogy. Entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to build a high-impact summer program. Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills. Commitment to empowering and uplifting young men from underserved communities.
Pay:
$3,000.00 per month
