We are looking for a Lead Math Teacher (Grades 7-12) to design and lead our secondary math program.

Note:

While our school uses a Montessori, project-based framework, you do not need Montessori experience to apply. We welcome strong math teachers from traditional public, charter, or private schools, and we will fully support your transition into this hands-on teaching style! In this role, you will connect Pre-Algebra through Calculus to practical work like school micro-economies, outdoor learning projects, applied statistics, and design engineering. This is a unique chance to build a dynamic program from the ground up, using our existing outdoor learning spaces while helping to shape our planned new STEAM facilities. What You'll Do Design individualized math pathways: Build data-driven, student-centered plans spanning Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

Connect math to real projects:

Integrate concepts into practical work (micro-economies, outdoor learning projects, statistics, and engineering) rather than isolated lessons.

Teach in small groups:

Lead targeted interactive lessons and workshops, facilitating self-paced, focused independent work blocks.

Collaborate across subjects:

Partner with science, language arts, and social studies colleagues on interdisciplinary units aligned to NC state standards.

Mentor students:

Serve as an advisor to a small cohort, supporting their goal-setting and community responsibilities.

Communicate progress:

Write narrative progress reports and maintain student portfolios twice yearly, and lead parent conferences and education events.

Lead field experiences:

Help plan and chaperone overnight trips, volunteer initiatives, and outdoor learning excursions across North Carolina. What We're Looking For Teaching experience: 3+ years teaching upper middle or high school math. Candidates from traditional, public, or charter settings are encouraged to apply — we care most about your track record of student success and your excitement to transition to a hands-on, project-based teaching model.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a related STEM field (Master's preferred). Candidates with an education degree and 3+ years of demonstrated success teaching Algebra II through Calculus are also a strong fit.

Willingness to learn:

You do not need a Montessori credential to apply. We will sponsor and fund MACTE-accredited Secondary I/II training for the right candidate after they join our team. Expected Skills and Background Solid grounding in math pathways through high school graduation requirements. Genuine interest in adolescent development — socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Strong written and verbal communication for student narratives and parent conversations. Comfort working outdoors and flexibility to adapt lesson plans to a project-based format. Working Conditions You'll teach both indoors in a classroom studio and outdoors within our beautiful 11-acre campus, with regular standing, moving, and working alongside students at their pace. Requires background check clearance, CPR/First Aid certification, and eligibility to work in North Carolina.
