As part of a bilingual, dual language program in an international school, our students take French and English classes every day. We are looking for a teacher specialized in mathematics to deliver engaging, rigorous instruction to Lower School students. Due to the bilingual design of our school, students learn in both French and English throughout the day, and math instruction is coordinated closely with French-language colleagues to ensure continuity and coherence across both languages.

Responsibilities would include:

Plan and Implement Rigorous, Age-Appropriate Math Curriculum:

Design and execute engaging lesson plans aligned with math learning standards and curriculum goals. Focus on conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning as primary modes of learning. Build strong foundational skills in number sense, operations, measurement, geometry, and early data/statistics, scaffolding toward more complex concepts as students progress.

Differentiate Instruction:

Tailor activities and materials to meet the individual needs, learning styles, and developmental levels of all students. Provide support for students with special needs and English Language Learners (ELLs), including targeted small-group and one-on-one instruction.

Utilize Classroom Technology:

Incorporate age-appropriate educational technology (e.g., smartboards, math apps, iPads, Chromebooks) to enhance learning and provide interactive practice.

Foster Social-Emotional Growth Through Math:

Encourage a growth mindset around math, helping students build confidence and resilience when tackling challenging problems. Guide children in developing collaborative skills through partner and group problem-solving activities. Implement positive guidance techniques to help students manage frustration and persist through difficulty. Maintain a

Safe & Orderly Environment:

Supervise children closely at all times (in the classroom, during transitions, and in shared spaces). Arrange the classroom to be safe, stimulating, and conducive to hands-on math learning centers and manipulatives-based work.

Observe and Assess Progress:

Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments (observations, work samples, quizzes, developmental checklists) to monitor each child's mathematical growth. Identify potential learning gaps or special needs and refer students for necessary services.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of student progress and mastery of math benchmarks. Prepare and deliver progress reports and report cards. Partner with

Staff:

Work effectively with teaching assistants, co-teachers, French-language colleagues, administrators, and specialized service providers to harmonize math instruction across the bilingual program. As a member of the FASNY community, teachers are expected to work in a team for the benefit of the students, stay in touch with parents to support student progress, and monitor students in a variety of educational environments. Educators at FASNY support other classroom teachers and participate in regularly scheduled meetings and professional development activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required (Education preferred); Master's a plus. 2-3 years of elementary teaching experience, ideally with a math focus. Strong knowledge of elementary math curriculum and hands-on teaching approaches. Experience differentiating instruction for ELLs and students with special needs. Comfort using classroom technology (smartboards, iPads, Chromebooks). Strong collaboration skills, particularly with French-language colleagues. French proficiency is not required.
