Valence College Prep, a 5th-8th grade charter school in Queens, seeks a dedicated educator for the position of 7th / 8th Grade Math & Science Learning Specialist . Valence College Prep opened in Fall 2019 with 112 fifth graders and reached full enrollment in the Fall of 2022 with 448 scholars. We continue to build our team of passionate, adaptive, and detail-oriented educators united behind our mission - to equip each of our students with the academic skills, professional habits, and strength of character to graduate from college. Job Summary As a school, our first core belief is that excellent instruction yields strong academic performance. Our teachers have the most important job in our school, and we believe that great teachers are made, not born. The importance of this belief is magnified for our scholars with learning disabilities, scholars learning English, and scholars who require substantial academic remediation. The Learning Specialist will provide mandated IEP services via co-teaching and small-group intervention services to ensure that all scholars are enabled with the support necessary to achieve our mission. Learning Specialists report to an instructional leader and participate in weekly collaboration, coaching, and professional development to maximize their positive impact on our scholars. The Math & Science Learning Specialist will co-teach 7th grade Science and 8th grade Math, teaching two periods in each grade per day. Key Responsibilities Co-teach 4 periods of core academic instruction Utilize Valence College Prep curricular materials as a basis to differentiate lesson plans and create specially-designed instruction (SDI) to provide push-in and pull-out supports to all scholars, particularly those with IEPs or 504 plans to ensure their academic success Manage a caseload of IEP students and complete regular progress monitoring to ensure IEP goals are met; collect and analyze multiple forms of scholar achievement data for purposes of targeting intervention, guiding instructional next steps, and improving practice Prepare teacher reports and progress monitoring documents for annual and triennial IEP meetings; attend initial, annual, and triennial IEP meetings in collaboration with the Manager of Special Education Provide scholars with frequent and accurate academic and behavioral feedback Participate actively in frequent professional development, coaching, and collaboration, and promptly implement coaching feedback into teaching practice Act as a co-Advisor for a classroom of 30 students and communicate weekly with families Step in as a teacher leader on ad hoc tasks and projects when necessary to support and build a strong school environment Key Competencies & Qualifications Unwavering high expectations for all scholars A belief that all children deserve access to a college education Positivity and enthusiasm for the potential of every scholar Ability to lead a classroom where excellence is expected and cultivated in 100% of scholars Strong communication, organization, and on-the-fly problem solving skills Capacity and passion to grow every day based on data and feedback from coach and peers Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Vaccination for
