Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will provide a solid framework for further academic and social success at the next level. The Math Teacher will draw on content standards of relevant curriculum frameworks to plan units of study, individual lessons, and learning activities that are engaging, student centered and focused on the achievement of all students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaches goodness, discipline, and knowledge through gospel values. Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and social growth. Creates a class environment that is favorable to all student learning, establishes effective rapport with students, and motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide a good foundation for learning. Collaborates with colleagues for resources and feedback on instruction, assessment, academic achievement and student performance. Promotes achievement for all students. Utilizes formal and informal assessment tools and knowledge of human development to employ appropriate learning activities. Plans lessons with clear objectives and relevant measured outcomes. Incorporates appropriate technology and media. Makes learning objectives clear to students and parents. Challenges students to think critically and build on prior knowledge and experience. Regularly communicate with parents outside of report cards and scheduled conferences. Manages classroom routines and procedures. Attends all faculty meetings, workshops, faculty/staff retreats, school masses, assemblies, and celebrations. Maintains teacher web pages, weekly updates of assignments and grades on the web portal, production of interim, quarterly and semester grades. Understands and carries out moral and legal responsibilities as a teacher. Includes the Catholic Lens and the Aquinas mission in all instruction.
Other Responsibilities:
Reflects critically upon his or her teaching experience, identifies areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan that is linked to grade level, department, and school philosophy, and is receptive to suggestions for growth. Participates in revision/writing of curricula, writing and correction of assessments, selection of textbooks and materials for courses and departments, consistency of grading procedures, professional development. May participate in various school related committees. May be required to work additional days outside of the school year calendar. Other duties assigned by the department chair, assistant principal, or principal.
Requirements:
Knowledge and Experience:
Newly Certified College Graduates Encouraged to Apply Minimum B.A in Mathematics. Master's Degree preferred. 7-12 Teaching Certification Two years prior teaching experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and develop open, respectful, positive, and cooperative relationships with students required. Excellent communications skills required. Must be able to speak with appropriate volume, vocabulary, and expression in the language of instruction so as to be readily understood by and set a good example for students. Must possess patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Collaborative skills are required to work with colleagues in developing curriculum, assessments, and lesson plans. Creativity and presentation skills to motivate and hold the interest of students. Must be able to develop rapport with students and manage their behavior. Basic technological skills required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The teacher spends the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold light objects. He or she must walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc. Dealing with the students may entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending.
Hours:
7:45 a.m.
  • 3:00 p.
m., Monday through Friday. The ability to work outside the school schedule periodically in collaboration with colleagues is necessary. At Aquinas, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay for this role is between $42,000 and $55,000 annually. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also available.
