Position Summary:
The Part-Time Upper School Mathematics Teacher is an engaging, student-centered educator responsible for teaching two sections within the Upper School mathematics program. Moravian Academy seeks a collaborative and enthusiastic teacher with particular interest and experience in teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry, helping students build strong mathematical foundations, confidence, and problem-solving skills. The teacher will design and facilitate dynamic learning experiences that promote conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and student engagement. Through thoughtful instruction, meaningful feedback, and strong relationships with students and families, the teacher fosters a classroom environment that balances academic challenge with support and encouragement. This is a part-time teaching role with a load of two sections that each meet four times per week, plus two office hours sessions per week, with additional responsibilities related to student feedback, communication, and participation in the life of the Mathematics Department and broader school community as appropriate for a part-time faculty member. FTE Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach two sections within the Upper School mathematics curriculum, with preference for teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry Design and implement engaging lessons that emphasize conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, collaboration, and problem-solving Foster a student-centered classroom environment that encourages curiosity, persistence, and intellectual risk-taking Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and mathematical backgrounds Assess student learning regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback through grading comments, conferences, and ongoing communication Cultivate an inclusive and supportive classroom culture that affirms student voice and promotes confidence in mathematics Use educational technology and digital tools to enhance instruction, communication, and organization Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and class expectations Collaborate with Mathematics Department colleagues to support curriculum alignment, course development, and departmental initiatives Participate in faculty meetings, department collaboration, and professional development as appropriate for a part-time role Engage in the broader life of the school community in ways that support student experience and program visibility
Qualifications:
Required:
Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field Experience teaching secondary mathematics students Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry Strong commitment to student-centered teaching and collaborative practice
Preferred:
3-5 years of teaching experience, ideally at the secondary level Experience in independent schools or similar college-preparatory environments Experience integrating technology into mathematics instruction Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education or similar learning platforms
