ABEC's products include process and equipment engineering/consulting services, comprehensive site services, and stainless steel and single use bioprocess equipment, including bioreactors and fermenters, filtration and chromatography systems, prep and hold systems, and cleaning/sterilization systems.
Position Summary:
The ABEC Cell Therapy Engineering Intern will support the Cell Therapy Engineering team through a combination of project-based assignments and daily engineering activities. This internship provides exposure to advanced cell therapy technologies, bioprocess equipment design, system development, technical documentation, and engineering support activities within the biopharmaceutical industry. The intern will contribute to departmental goals by assisting with design reviews, process evaluations, technical documentation, and cross-functional engineering initiatives while also leading or supporting up to three meaningful projects designed to enhance product performance, improve engineering processes, or drive continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities:
Lead independent summer project focused on improving the design and manufacturability of ABEC's the product line. Assist in all stages of product development by conducting research, gathering data, and providing input on product features and improvements. Create prototypes and proof-of-concept models for new product ideas, ensuring they align with project goals and specifications. Conduct product testing, including functionality, performance, and usability testing, and document and report any defects or issues to the Product Manager. Create and maintain documentation, including product specifications, user manuals, and test plans, to ensure clarity and consistency throughout the product development process. Identify areas for process improvement within the product development cycle and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and quality. Evaluate product costs and work with operational departments to reduce costs and improve gross margins. Ability to work in a professional team-based office environment and meet date-driven customer-focused commitments. Execute other tasks as assigned Requirements Pursuing a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Bio, Chemical, etc.) Knowledge of 3D Parametric CAD Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Detail oriented with a solid understanding of drafting standards, design fundamentals, and?related fabrication processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Must work well both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to carry a project from conception to production.
