General Summary The Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Faculty Specialist I or II rank in Mathematics. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching and service missions of WMU. This is an academic-year position, with the possibility of summer instructional assignments for additionalpensation. The expected start date is August 15, 2027.

Major Duties Provide effective mathematics instruction to undergraduate students in service courses.

Support the success of the diverse populations of undergraduate students, including adjusting offerings for the changing backgrounds of students and the needs of client disciplines.

Lead teams of instructors (including graduate students and adjunct instructors) in multi-section courses, including schedule, syllabus, course objectives, assessments, and professional development.

Contribute to department, college, and universitymittees.

Minimum Qualifications A master's or doctoral degree in applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related field, awarded by August 15, 2028 from an accredited institution.

Three years undergraduate teaching in mathematics or a closely related field.

Experience working with multiple instructors on amon course.

Experience with online learning-management systems.

Desired Qualifications Evidence of successful and innovative mathematics teaching.

Established capacity to serve as lead coordinator for multi-section courses. This includes providing course-specific professional development, mentoring and supervision for new instructors.

Demonstrated ability to teach classes that provide technical skills for students enrolled in non-STEM majors, such as MATH 1140 and 1160 at WMU.

Demonstrated ability to teach classes that improve the pre-algebra and algebra skills of students to prepare them for the math courses and content required for their majors and careers (MATH 1090, 1100, and 1110 at WMU).

Ability to serve as support or lead the coordination of other multi-section courses if the need arises, including precalculus, calculus sequence, and linear algebra (MATH 1178, 1179, 1180, 1220, 1230, 2300, 2720, 3740) or mathematics education (MATH 1520, 2530, 2530, and 3550).

A documented history of promoting student engagement, success, and achievement.

An exhibited ability to implement AI or other technologies in the classroom.
