In this 12-month position, the chair is responsible to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for providing leadership and departmental administration; providing administrative oversight of our large outreach into the community, which includes a substantial dual enrollment program; maintaining the collegial atmosphere of the department; and enhancing the professional development and research productivity of departmental faculty and staff. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students and are expected to have an active, ongoing research program. The chair is expected to foster and promote scholarly productivity and visibility of a diverse and active faculty while supporting innovative and high-quality teaching. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field as well the associate or full professor level. Priority will be given to candidates in Data Science and Statistics. They should have demonstrated leadership ability and effective communication skills. East Tennessee State University has an enrollment of approximately 15,000 students. We are a Carnegie Foundation doctoral research university, with associated Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. ETSU is located in Johnson City, a city of 74,000 in Northeast Tennessee between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Required Qualifications Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. A proven record of teaching and research appropriate for a tenured position at the Associate or full Professor level. Applicants should have demonstrated leadership ability, effective communication skills, and a history of campus and community involvement beyond the departmental level. Applicants should demonstrate the capacity to lead the department in delivering rigorous, equitable instruction that effectively serves an academically diverse student population. Preferred Qualifications Priority will be given to candidates with substantial leadership experience.
