Location:
Virginia Beach, VIRGINIA Position Description The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications for a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA), starting August 2026. This appointment is a 10-month instructional faculty position that is non-tenure track and for 1 year only. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching general education statistics and mathematics classes. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistics and experience implementing innovative, student-centered teaching practices. The successful candidate will focus on high-quality, student-centered instruction in introductory statistics and/or mathematics courses. Teaching assignments will include courses in Statistical Literacy, Introductory Statistics, College Algebra, and/or Introductory Calculus. Teaching is the primary responsibility for this position. Relative to teaching expectations, the expectations for scholarship and service are minimal. Required qualifications:
  • At least a master's degree in Statistics or Mathematics (or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate Statistics or Mathematics coursework)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Preferred qualifications:
  • At least 18 hours of graduate coursework in statistics
