Junior Alchemists:
Chemistry for Kids and Exploring the Animal Kingdom . Science or STEM experience is preferred, but a formal science degree or previous experience as a science teacher is not required. Relevant experience may include science coursework, tutoring, classroom teaching, camps, childcare, STEM activities, laboratory experience, environmental science, biology, chemistry, or other hands-on educational work. Athena provides complete lesson plans, activity instructions, and materials. Instructors do not need to create their own curriculum or purchase supplies. We welcome candidates with science backgrounds as well as strong youth instructors who are enthusiastic about hands-on learning and comfortable reviewing and teaching prepared activities. Schedule Instructors may be scheduled for one or multiple weekly classes , depending on program needs, candidate fit, and availability.

Candidates do not need to be available for every day of the week, but must be able to commit reliably to all scheduled dates for any class they accept. Responsibilities Review provided lesson plans before class Lead prepared science experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities Explain concepts and instructions in an age-appropriate way Help students safely use materials and complete activities Encourage curiosity, participation, and discussion Manage classroom behavior, setup, transitions, and cleanup Keep track of program materials and supplies Communicate reliably with Athena staff Student Groups Classes primarily serve elementary students in grades K-3 . Activities are designed to be highly guided and hands-on. Instructors should be comfortable breaking activities into simple steps, demonstrating procedures clearly, helping younger students with materials, and maintaining an organized classroom environment. Qualifications Experience working with children through teaching, tutoring, camps, childcare, coaching, after-school programs, or similar work Reliable, punctual, organized, and comfortable leading a group of elementary students Able to explain prepared concepts and activities clearly Comfortable facilitating hands-on activities and managing classroom materials Able to travel reliably to class locations in the Catalina Foothills/Tucson area Able to complete required school-site background checks and clearances
Preferred:
Experience or education related to science, STEM, chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering, or a related field Previous experience leading hands-on science or enrichment activities Previous elementary classroom, tutoring, camp, or after-school experience Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Candidates who combine strong experience working with children with an interest or background in science/STEM will receive priority consideration.
