None Position Summary The Part-Time / Half-Time Middle School Math & Science Teacher plans, develops, and instructs students in grades 6-8 using a curriculum and learning experiences that promote academic achievement as well as spiritual, social, and emotional growth in a Christ-centered environment. The teacher serves as a loving Christian role model, cultivates student curiosity and confidence, and supports students while they are in the classroom and on school grounds. Faith and Ministry Role Teachers minister to students and families with the love of Christ and work as team members with school and church staff. They teach the Word of God alongside the required curriculum, help establish a Christian learning environment, pray with and for students, and encourage students and families as members of the Body of Christ. Teachers are believers in Jesus Christ who live out their faith by attending worship regularly and by demonstrating Christian conduct in their work. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Plan and implement instruction that follows approved curriculum standards, goals, and objectives for assigned middle school mathematics and science courses. Teach mathematics through clear explanations, guided practice, problem-solving, application, and appropriate use of technology. Content may include number sense, ratios and proportions, algebraic reasoning, geometry, data analysis, and pre-algebra. Teach science through inquiry, observation, laboratory activities, engineering design, and real-world application. Content may include life science, earth and space science, and physical science. Use effective teaching techniques, materials, educational experiences, and appropriate technology-based systems to support instruction, assessment, and data use. Provide developmentally appropriate activities that include teacher-directed learning, student collaboration, independent practice, hands-on investigation, and enrichment opportunities. Communicate assignments, objectives, expectations, conduct, and achievement clearly to students. Monitor and assess student progress through observation, data interpretation, personal interaction, and other appropriate procedures, and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and administration. Establish and maintain fair, just, and effective Christian discipline to achieve a safe and productive learning environment. Maintain accurate, complete, and legible records as required by law and school policy, including attendance, grades, assessment, and testing information. Ensure that science instruction, laboratory activities, materials, and equipment are conducted and maintained according to appropriate safety procedures. Evaluate specific student needs, counsel students individually when necessary, and seek assistance from administration or support personnel as appropriate. Communicate effectively with parents in written form and personal contact when necessary, building positive parent-teacher relationships and partnerships. Monitor and direct the activities of classroom aides or volunteers when appropriate. Supervise students during lunch, hallways, transitions, group instruction, and other assigned duties or school activities. Assist with special school programs, religious services, projects, extracurricular activities, and events involving students as assigned and proportionate to the part-time schedule. Attend in-service sessions, faculty meetings, professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and other meetings required by the principal. Grow professionally through educational reading, workshops, conference attendance, graduate coursework, and other opportunities for professional growth. Maintain a substitute teacher folder containing the daily schedule, class lists, lesson plans, procedures, and materials used. Maintain professionalism in communication and relationships with students, parents, and staff. Abide by procedures outlined in the Yuma Lutheran School staff handbook. Perform any other duties as deemed appropriate by the principal. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, or a related field; a master's degree is valued. Demonstrated instructional excellence and effective classroom management; middle school math and/or science teaching experience is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Professional personal presentation, organization, planning, initiative, reliability, attention to detail, emotional management, and ability to work as part of a team. First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification within a reasonable period of time. Valid Fingerprint Card and any other background information requested by the school. Active member in good standing with a Christian church; LCMS alignment is preferred. Position Description forPart-Time / Half-TimeMiddle School Math & Science Teacher Terms of Employment This position is a part-time, 10-month school-year role that follows the school calendar. The anticipated assignment is approximately one-half time; the precise teaching schedule, courses, supervision assignments, additional duties, and required events will be determined by the principal according to school needs. Prompt attendance, dependability, and cooperation with school staff are required for the smooth functioning of the school. Physical and Work Requirements Ability to work in a classroom and laboratory environment and supervise students safely. Ability to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, and use instructional technology throughout scheduled work periods. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move instructional materials and supplies of up to 25 pounds. Ability to respond appropriately to student health, safety, supervision, and emergency needs. Evaluation Performance in this position will be evaluated on an annual basis.
