Oakland, CA 94621 (in-person) About the Role We are looking for an enthusiastic Ukulele Instructor to lead an engaging after-school music enrichment program for young learners. You'll introduce students to the fundamentals of ukulele through hands-on lessons, simple songs, games, and interactive activities. The goal is to make music approachable and enjoyable while helping students build confidence as they learn to play. If you play ukulele confidently, enjoy working with children, and can make beginner-level music instruction fun and easy to follow, we'd love to hear from you. Curriculum guidance and instructional materials are provided , giving you a structure while allowing you to bring your own personality, creativity, and teaching style to the classroom. What You'll Do Lead engaging, beginner-friendly ukulele classes Teach basic chords, strumming, rhythm, and playing techniques Introduce students to simple songs and musical exercises Demonstrate techniques clearly and break concepts into manageable steps Use games and interactive activities to keep students engaged Encourage students to practice, experiment, and develop musical confidence Adapt instruction to different abilities and levels of experience Create a positive, welcoming, and supportive learning environment Encourage creativity, participation, and teamwork Provide positive feedback and celebrate student progress Maintain an organized and safe classroom environment Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff Arrive prepared, dependable, and ready to make music with students Qualifications We're looking for someone who: Has strong ukulele-playing skills and can confidently demonstrate basic techniques Enjoys music and working with young learners Can teach beginner-level chords, rhythm, and playing techniques Is patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging Is comfortable leading groups of students Has strong communication and interpersonal skills Can adapt instruction for different learning styles and experience levels Is reliable, professional, and organized Can follow provided curriculum while bringing creativity to the classroom Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. Experience in music instruction, performing, tutoring, mentoring, camps, youth programs, or education is a plus.
